About the Wordstruck Micro Essay Contest

Wordstruck: Micro Essays on Literature that Redefined You was an annual essay contest conducted between 2019-2022 for Pennsylvania students in Grades 10-12 that invited students to describe how a written work had influenced them personally. Students submitted independently or as part of a high school or homeschool assignment, and were required to self-select the piece of literature they chose to write about.

This contest concluded with the 2022 contest to encourage young writers to explore the micro essay genre more deeply through a sole focus on the Micro Essay Lesson Plan developed by Instructional Designer, Erica King, that is part of the Center's Curricula & Teaching Materials.
