About This Program: Furry Animals

In this program children and parents will spend the first half-hour engaged in separate activities. These activities prepare them for the interactive literacy activities during the second part of the program. The program activities include—

1. A separate Early Childhood Education segment in which the children participate in a storytime and dramatization based on the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

2. A separate Parenting Education segment in which families—
• learn how to share the non-fiction book, The Furry Animal Alphabet Book, with their children, and
• learn a finger rhyme about the Billy Goats Gruff to teach their children.

3. An Integrated Literacy segment in which children and their families—
• read The Furry Animal Alphabet Book together, and
• play a pantomime game in which they act out some of the interesting facts they learned about the animals in the book.

A poem page, patterns for making Billy Goat Gruff masks, suggested program extensions, and several related resources are included. The whole program will take approximately one hour and fifteen minutes.
