Introduction

In this section, you will find some ideas to help you if:

  • You haven't yet begun to read to your child, or
  • You find it hard to get your child to listen to books.

It does take extra effort to begin reading with some children. This is especially true for children who are always "on the go" or those who just have trouble listening. Some children get frustrated with books and throw them or even rip at the pages.

Your child can learn to enjoy reading though. You can help your child by:

  • Choosing books that your child will like.
  • Showing your child that books are fun.
  • Reading together in ways that fit your child.
  • Teaching your child how to care for his books.
